About Us
We are Rodolfo and Celia Maeda, now retired and living by Lake Conroe, in Montgomery, TX. Our Havanese adventure started in 2010, while visiting friends in Hungary. During this trip, we fell in love with our friend’s pet, “Pinky”, a very loveable and friendly Havanese female.
At that time, we lived in Gothenburg, Sweden and we decided we wanted a Havanese puppy. Like most Americans, we went to the local pet store to buy a puppy. The store manager explained that throughout Europe and especially in the Scandinavian countries, no puppies were purchased at pet stores. This was to avoid puppy mills, (so famous here in America). She advised to look for a breeder on line, and most importantly to visit the breeder and see the puppy’s living condition.
We followed her advice and contacted a breeder. We completed a questioner and had to meet her in person. Our meeting lasted about two hours and she decided that we were an acceptable buyer. We purchased our male and future sire, Callunavias Meaning of Love, from this very reputable breeder who also handled and competed her dogs throughout Europe and the U.S. Our pup, (call name Cero), from day one in our home was very adorable, loveable and smart. Within five days, we had trained him to ring a small bell that was tied to our back door, notifying us that he needed to go outside to do his thing.
After that first month, we realized that Meaning of Love was a perfect name for our Cero. No minute went by where Cero didn’t try his best to make us smile, laugh and stand on his hind legs as if dancing. He was our loveable and newest addition to the family.
Upon our return to the U.S. in 2012, we attended a dog show. Then seeing the show’s action, the different breeds, the grooming, the competition, the judging, and we were hooked. We joined the Conroe Kennel Club, and started our pursuit of showing and handling our own dog. Our local mentor, Chris Disser of Havdiss Havanese, was so helpful in guiding us to our goal. We learned that veterinary health testing on dogs was a must to enhance the breed and not produce puppies with hereditary defects.
We purchased our Show Pup in the Seattle area from Burns Gardens Kennel (BG’s). Bill Burns, the breeder was also very instrumental in providing knowledge and suggested reading materials so our knowledge of the Havanese would grow.
Our show girl, named “Your Wallet, Watch and Phone”, call name Portia, joined our family in mid-May 2015. We ourselves initially started handling Portia at the dog shows, but eventually due to travel difficulties we hired a professional handler to show her. On February 18, 2017, our girl became an AKC Champion with a 4-point major win at the West Texas Kennel Club Dog Show, in Midland TX.
This same year, on June 9th, 2017, Portia had our very first litter. The litter was sired by our male Cero. We had three female puppies and sold. They went to forever homes, one here in Houston and the other two ended up in Florida.
We are currently striving to become a small show dog kennel and breeder. Our breeding goal is to produce at least one show dog per litter, better than either parent, and to raise healthy and happy puppies with excellent temperaments to forever loving homes. Our puppies are born indoors of our home for the needed socialization and provided with around the clock care.
Our sire and dame’s pedigree information and health records is on their respective "home" page.
Thank you for visiting. We appreciate your interest in our dogs.
